The Bryan Clay Foundation was created in 2005 by two-time Olympic Decathlon medalist and the “World’s Greatest Athlete”, Bryan Clay. The Foundation, whose vision is “Building champions, changing lives,”
aims to mentor youth as they mature and to help motivate and empower them with the opportunities, desire, and practical tools necessary to maximize their potential.

Through its programs, the Foundation encourages character development and the pursuit of physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual well-being.

The Foundation’s most recent venture, the National Walk for Wellness Campaign, is designed to unite communities around our youth in a wellness education program at elementary schools across California (with a national launch scheduled for 2011.) In addition to wellness education, the Foundation helps participating schools execute turnkey walk-a-thon fundraisers with an effective short-term, easily executable solution to budget cuts at the local level.

Bryan Clay, Founder and CEO of the Bryan Clay Foundation states, “What we like most about Promark Financial is that their track record models a commitment to excellence lived out with consistency and conviction. I am confident the impact of this partnership will be a legacy remembered for generations to come.”

David Parsons, COO of the Bryan Clay Foundation adds, “The best part about having Promark Financial on board is not what confidence or credibility we derive from the partnership, but rather, the experiences our youth will gain as the result of an altruistic investment. Thus, our pride becomes our ability as a team to execute effectively on their behalf and to succeed in unlocking the positive power of their potential.”

Promark is excited about teaming up with the Bryan Clay Foundation. Our goal at Promark Financial is to donate $7500 in 2010 to the Bryan Clay foundation. As of June 2010, contributions to the foundation have totaled $2500. We are collaborating with the Bryan Clay Foundation to support the organization’s ongoing efforts to digitize and advance its technological platforms in order to better serve and empower youth. Funds will help to drive organizational awareness and highlight the positive impact made possible by donors, corporate partners, and volunteers.

National company Yoli will launch its new Fun Active Blast sports drink in the Islands this month with support from the World’s Greatest Athlete — Hawaii’s own decathlete Bryan Clay, who says the drink has enhanced his training and overall performance.

Clay says Yoli’s Blast Cap makes it better than other energy drinks. The cap stores the nutrients and vitamins as a powder until you are ready to mix it with 18 ounces of water and drink it. That way, Clay says, the active ingredients won’t deteriorate while the product sits on the shelf.

“Since the Blast Caps preserve all the vitamins and nutrients until actual consumption, Yoli completely eliminates the need for pasteurization during bottling, which is required by modern manufacturing guidelines to prevent bacteria growth,” he says. “That boiling process destroys a lot of active ingredients, so you’re losing a lot of nutrients. But not with Yoli.”

Yoli sells the Blast Cap separately for $2 or with the Fun water bottle. Clay says Fun Active Blast is geared toward athletes and people on the go. It has zero calories, no artificial sugars, preservatives or caffeine, and is lemon-lime flavored.

The main active ingredient is Alka-Plex, a patented acid-neutralizing ingredient that Yoli says reduces cramping, minimizes muscle stiffness and removes lactic acid.

Dr. Alan Titchenal, professor of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Hawaii, who has not studied this product, told Hawaii Business that too much acid in the muscles can hurt athletic performance. So, he says, the product could be useful to athletes. “Especially for high-intensity sports, muscles produce lactic acid, so the theory is that if you increase alkaline in the blood, it will neutralize the lactic acid.”

Similar to other energy drinks, Yoli offers network-marketing opportunities. The sales force for “Team Clay” in Hawaii is headed by Bryan’s younger brother,
 Nikolas Clay.

Sheraton Princess Kaiulani will be welcoming 2008 Olympic decathlon gold medalist and Hawaii’s very own hero Bryan Clay for a wellness program event. This is a free event on Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 12 – 1 p.m. in the hotel’s ‘Ainahau Lobby.

Besides sharing his story of his journey to win the gold medal in men’s decathlon in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Clay will also be teaching exercises and sharing knowledge about health, fitness, and nutrition as a part of Sheraton Princess Kaiulani’s Cultural Experience program. “We here at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani pride ourselves in sharing local culture with guests from all over the world,” said Fred Orr, the hotel’s general manager. “Having Bryan Clay come is a huge honor because he is such a great role model for our kids and such an inspiration for all.”

Born in Austin, Texas and raised in Hawaii, Bryan Clay competed in track and field at James B. Castle High School and later Azusa Pacific University in California. After meeting Chris Huffins, the 2000 Sydney Olympic decathlon bronze medalist at a track clinic, Clay trained hard in the decathlon, a sport event that consists of 10 individual track and field events that tests an individual’s athleticism to the fullest. Clay’s hard work paid off as he went on to win numerous events, most notably the Olympic silver medal in men’s decathlon in the 2004 Athens Olympics and later the Olympic gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Clay has also won the title “The World’s Greatest Athlete.”

At this moment it is indisputable that Bryan Clay is the world’s best decathlete and therefore holds the title of “World’s Greatest Athlete.” Littlefield Ranch CEO Alex O’Brien is very proud to gain the endorsement of such a top caliber athlete,
“Bryan Clay eating our steaks and beef in general is a real boost to our industry and more specifically to the quality of the Littlefield Ranch product.”

There has been a long debate on what types of food will best help an athlete trying to fuel his/her body to become the best. The high carbohydrate diet of the 80s and 90s has been supplanted the high protein Atkins Diet. Clay believes that a high protein diet is essential to peak performance, “A top quality steak is a perfect place for me to get protein. The alliance with Littlefield Ranch gives me the comfort of knowing that every time I want a high end restaurant quality Prime steak it is there for me. Before I was getting my steaks from the grocery and I was not able to find the same quality and consistency that Littlfield delivers.”

Clay’s long time friend and trainer Stephen Bienko saw an opportunity with Littlefield Ranch that was hard to pass. “Bryan has always been a fan of high end steaks and when we saw an opportunity to team the World’s greatest athlete with the World’s best steak provider–it was a perfect fit.”

Olympic champion Bryan Clay and World-record holder Roman Sebrle headline the decathlon start list in the TNT-Fortuna Combined Events competition in Kladno, Czech Republic, next Tuesday and Wednesday (15-16).

It is the third component of the 2010 IAAF Combined Events Challenge. Also included in the programme will be a Heptathlon and a junior decathlon contest.

Barely two weeks after Clay’s brilliant first-day effort of 4450 in Götzis was scuttled on the second day by intermittent driving rain and wind as he still ended with a world-leading 8483, the American will go to the line once again for a ten-eventer. With the US Championships only ten days after the conclusion of the Kladno competition, Clay will be finding himself in three top-level decathlon meetings within the space of less than a month, a frequency unprecedented during his long career.

But such is the compact nature of this and many other athletics fixtures during the 2010 season as the upcoming European Championships in late July forces traditional meetings into a compact time window ending in mid-July for the Barcelona break.

Meeting co-director Tomáš Dvořák agreed that the scheduling was quite tight this year, but that “It was not a problem for us. Sixteen days after Götzis is enough time to recover for the athletes.” Concerning the Ratingen [GER] component of the Challenge, scheduled for next Saturday and Sunday, Dvořák was of the opinion that “our meeting and Ratingen serve somewhat different purposes. The main difference for us is that there will be no German competitors in Kladno.”

It should also be noted that the scoring in the IAAF Combined Events Challenge require that only the top three scores be used in an unweighted manner. An athlete’s placing is immaterial. Each competitor is thus free to choose the competitions best suited for his or her season, with the late-July European Championships in Barcelona (also part of the IAAF Challenge) standing as the pinnacle for competitors from that continent.

Sebrle will be the ‘local matador’ in Kladno as he makes his fourth consecutive appearance here, winning the inaugural event in 2007–with a still-standing meeting record of 8697–and placing second the last two years. The reigning European champion amassed 4225 during the opening day at Götzis, but chose to abandon the second part of the competition as a precautionary measure after feeling a slight strain in his thigh while warming up.

Other notables who will compete in the decathlon include Maurice Smith of Jamaica, the Osaka 2007 silver medallist; Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Karpov, the bronze medallist in Paris 2003, Athens Olympics and Osaka; Andrei Krauchanka of Belarus, the Beijing silver winner; Berlin fourth placer Oleksiy Kasyanov of Ukraine; Claston Bernard of Jamaica, who placed 9th in Athens; and American Jake Arnold, who cast aside the bad conditions in Götzis two weeks ago for a fourth-place PB 8253.

In all, thirteen of the decathlon starters have PBs of 8000 points or better.

Two Mesquite Trails Elementary School students — a boy and a girl — were awarded $500 scholarships from the Bryan Clay Foundation during the school’s awards ceremony on the last day of school, May 26.

Sixth-graders Joshua Pike and Elena Moncada were each given “legacy grants,” which can only be used when they go to college.

“These students scored the highest in leadership, citizenship and academics,” said principal Dave Stewart.

Joshua’s father, Dustin Pike, said his son only missed one day of school — in kindergarten, and his son has put his all into everything he does.

“I really couldn’t ask for a better kid,” he said.

Elena’s father, Adrian Moncada, said his daughter benefits by having a teacher for a mother. But she has an internal spark that propels her forward.

“She’s self-motivated. We don’t have to get on her,” Moncada said.

Like Joshua, Elena isn’t all about academics. She likes numerous activities.

“Her interests are all over the place.

Stewart, who has served as Mesquite Trails principal for four years, said he will miss the students after they leave the school, but he’s glad they will move on to new experiences and challenges. The graduating sixth-graders will attend Cedar Middle School next fall.

“It’s really a sad day for me seeing these guys. I’m really going to miss them,” Stewart said. “Today is kind of a happy-sad day.”

Stewart is a former international-caliber decathlete who has trained with Clay, who won the gold medal in the 2008 Olympics.

“His foundation is creating scholarships for kids. The majority of the money he raises goes back to student scholarships.”
