Defending world champion Bryan Clay withdraws from decathlon after injuring quadriceps muscle
September 2nd, 2007

OSAKA, Japan — Bryan Clay applied ice to his injured quadriceps muscle, got a quick massage and even turned to acupuncture.
Nothing helped ease the pain. So the reigning decathlon champion withdrew from the competition at the world track and field championships. He tweaked his right leg while competing in the high jump, the fourth of five events Friday evening.

“It was just too painful,” said Clay, who had 3,558 points. “It was going so well, too.” Click here. to continue reading

August 29th, 2007

OSAKA, Japan — Bryan Clay wouldn’t mind becoming the home crowd favorite during the decathlon this weekend at the world track and field championships.

Under the best of conditions, the two-day, 10-event competition is draining. With temperatures in the 90’s and high humidity, Clay is looking for any help he can get during the 12 hours of competition each day.

“The crowd will play a big role in helping us when we get tired and want to stop,” he said.

Bryan's Q&A
How often are you home in Hawaii and how does California compare with living on the islands? (from Sarah)
October 9th, 2007

I only get home to Hawaii once a year. I usually try to make it a month long trip so that I can see family. However things do get a little tough to juggle because when ever I go home I have to do a lot of business as well. Sometimes I wish that I could be in two places at once.
California, is not my favorite place. I miss things like family, green mountains, morning rains, clear skies, and local food. However, I am lucky. I am very accepted into my alma mater’s (Azusa Pacific University) community. It is where I train everyday and spend a lot of my time. Being involved there gives me a small taste of the close-knit island life.

When did you really realize that you had a chance to be an Olympic caliber athlete? (from Hideki)
October 2nd, 2007

I had dreamt of being in the Olympics since I was probably eight years old. However it was a very long time before I realized that my dreams had a good shot of becoming reality. I think it was when I took third place at the US National meet in 2001. I was 21 years old.
